Menurut salah satu anggota tim pengembangnya, Dadang Zaenal Aripin, sejak diluncurkan akhir Januari lalu Simsimi telah memiliki pengguna terdaftar sebanyak lebih dari 340 orang dengan lama kunjungan rata-rata 9 menit per pengguna. Simsimi dibuat dengan konsep layaknya seorang bayi, Simsimi masih belajar berbagai macam perbendaharaan kata dan cara menjawabnya. Responnya tentu bisa benar bisa juga ngawur atau lucu. Tapi di situ unsur twist yang ingin disampaikan.

Apakah pihak pengembangnya berminat melakukan monetisasi terhadap produk ini? Tentu saja, tapi akan diterapkan secara bertahap. Dadang mengatakan bahwa ada tiga jalur peluang melakukan monetisasi. Pertama adalah iklan, baik di situs ataupun di ponsel. Kedua adalah jika mem-bundling layanan ini sebagai value added melalui SMS. Yang kedua ini menarik bahwa tidak diperlukan ponsel pintar canggih untuk berbicara dengan Simsimi. Cukup kirim SMS dan Simsimi yang akan memberikan balasannya. Tentu saja ini strategis karena SMS masihlah menjadi media komunikasi utama via ponsel dan pengeluaran melalui SMS masihlah menyumbang pendapatan besar.

Hal yang ketiga yang bisa menjadi sumber pendapatan dapat dilakukan setelah produk ini menjadi lebih terkenal, yaitu penjualan merchandise. Kita tahu bahwa ikon Simsimi yang berbentuk bulat lucu dan berwarna kuning ini cukup menggemaskan. Seandainya menjadi boneka/plush toy tentunya akan menarik minat berbagai pihak, untuk bayi, anak-anak, dan juga orang dewasa. Masih ingatkan betapa luar biasa permintaan plush toy Angry Birds yang sangat populer itu?

Secara umum, konsep yang digulirkan oleh pihak pengembang Simsimi Indonesia sudah tepat. Saya kira pengguna akan bertambah lebih besar saat sudah tersedia via ponsel melalui aplikasi dan SMS. Harapan tentunya jawaban-jawaban Simsimi akan semakin seru, supaya pengguna bisa betah berlama-lama mengobrol dengannya.
